Team Handball Pass Dice Challenge

A partner activity covering the different team handball passes, where a giant die decides which pass to use each round. It builds a variety of one- and two-handed passes and catches and the challenge of linking passes without dropping the ball.

How to play

  1. Make 12 pairs and one group of three with a ball, facing each other 5 m apart between two cones. Explain which pass goes with each number on the die (2 min).
  2. 1: one-hand overhand baseball pass; 2: bounce pass; 3: two-hand chest pass; 4: non-dominant hand pass; 5: pass while shuffling sideways; 6: partner's choice.
  3. A student rolls the die in the center and calls the number. For 1 minute, pairs use that pass; every 10 passes in a row without a drop, they raise a hand and score a point (8 rounds, 10 min).
  4. Every two rounds, a new student rolls the die, and pairs who earned at least one point take one step back.
  5. Final challenge (3 min): two pairs join in a square and the die is rolled twice: alternate the two passes that come up.

Rules

Variations

Easier

Pass from 3 m, let the ball bounce before the catch, and only 5 passes in a row are needed.

Standard

Pairs 5 m apart, one pass type per round set by the die and a point every 10 passes in a row.

Harder

Pass from 7 m while moving, and the receiver must catch with one hand.

Teacher tip

On the baseball pass, many students step with the same-side foot, so remind them: opposite foot forward. Keep the die in the center and have a different student roll it each time so everyone stays tuned in.
