Tchoukball Target Landing Zone Shooting
A station-based tchoukball shooting practice in which students learn to control the rebound angle so the ball lands in specific zones away from the defense. Students work on accuracy, the link between impact angle and flight, and using it in a game.
How to play
- Set up 2-4 frames with the 3 m (10 ft) forbidden zone marked in tape, and in front of each frame tape three 2 x 2 m landing zones, left, center, and right, 6-9 m out.
- Groups of six per frame: two shooters, three retrievers inside the zones, and a scorekeeper. Shooters throw from outside the forbidden zone.
- Round 1, 5 minutes: free shots to each zone in order. The group notes from which side and at what height of the frame the ball needs to hit to go to each zone.
- Round 2, 5 minutes: the scorekeeper calls the zone just before the shot and the shooter must hit it; the right zone scores 2 points and a neighboring zone scores 1.
- Round 3, 6 minutes: two retrievers become defenders and stand wherever they want; the shooter must send the ball to the open zone. If the ball hits the floor in that zone, the offense scores.
Rules
- No one stands between the shooter and the frame during the shot.
- Retrievers catch the ball, never heading or kicking it away.
- The ball must be properly inflated, and no one fires it into the frame hard from close range.
Variations
Easier
Make the landing zones larger, 3 x 3 m, and shoot with no defenders.
Standard
Shoot to a called zone, then to the open zone against two defenders.
Harder
Add a fourth short zone next to the forbidden line, and shots are only allowed after catching a pass on the run.
Adaptations
- A student who uses a wheelchair can shoot from a closer fixed spot outside the forbidden zone, or be the scorekeeper who calls the zones.
- For students with low vision, mark the zones with tall colored cones and call out before the rebound.
- Students with less strength can use a lighter or foam ball.
Learning goals
- Connect the impact angle on the frame to the rebound's direction.
- Aim shots at zones away from the defense.
- Analyze technique through group observation.
Equipment for a class of 25
- Tchoukball frames: 4
- Team handballs: 4
- Cones: 12

Teacher tip
Many students always aim at the center of the frame; teach them to look at the landing zone, not the frame, before shooting.
