Tchoukball Shot Chart with Peer Observers
A tchoukball game in which every player has a partner who records their shots on a sheet: location, result, and the type of pass before the shot. Using the data, each pair identifies strengths and sets one improvement goal for the second half.
How to play
- Form player-observer pairs, and with the players form two teams of six in pinnies on a 28 x 15 m (about 90 x 50 ft) court with a frame at each end.
- Give each observer a sheet with a court diagram: for each shot, mark an X at the location, write P for a point, C if the defense caught it, or M for a miss, and note whether it came off a short or long pass.
- First 8-minute half with school tchoukball rules; observers stand on the sideline next to their player and do not coach during play.
- 4-minute break: each pair calculates the percentage of shots that scored, identifies the player's best area of the court, and agrees on one specific improvement.
- Second 8-minute half: switch roles, so the former observers play with their own sheets and a new goal.
Rules
- Observers record what they see without judging and discuss the data respectfully.
- Play stays no-contact with no interceptions.
- Observers stay off the court and at least 2 m (6 ft) from the landing area.
Variations
Easier
The observer only records whether each shot scored, with no location or pass type.
Standard
A sheet with location, result, and previous pass, plus an agreed improvement for the second half.
Harder
Each pair also builds a heat map with the whole team's data and proposes a team tactic.
Adaptations
- A student with limited mobility can observe two players or be a fixed shooter in one area of the court.
- For students with autism, use a sheet with simple symbols and let them practice recording two sample shots before the game.
- For less skilled students, the improvement goal can be a basic skill, such as shooting with two hands.
Learning goals
- Record performance data objectively.
- Interpret simple statistics to propose improvements.
- Give a partner constructive feedback.
