Tchoukball Rebound Catch Partners
A tchoukball skill progression in pairs and trios where students throw at the rebound frame and learn to read the rebound so they can catch it before it drops. It builds aimed throwing, anticipating the ball's path, and safe catching.
How to play
- Space the available frames at least 8 yards apart and assign groups of 4 to each frame; mark a 3-yard semicircular forbidden zone in front of each frame with cones.
- Free throw (3 min): each student throws two-handed from outside the zone and catches their own rebound; 5 throws, then switch.
- Partners (5 min): A throws at the frame and B, standing 4 yards off to one side, catches the rebound; switch roles every 5 throws.
- Trios with a pass (5 min): A passes to B, B shoots at the frame within three steps, and C catches the rebound; rotate all three positions.
- Group challenge (4 min): the group of 4 counts how many rebounds in a row it can catch without the ball touching the floor, changing shooter each time.
- Debrief (1 min): discuss which throwing angle sends the rebound toward a teammate.
Rules
- No one steps into the 3-yard forbidden zone in front of the frame.
- Throw only when the receiver is ready and watching.
- You may take a maximum of three steps with the ball.
- Safety: throw at the net, never at a classmate, and nobody stands behind the frame.
Variations
Easier
Use a larger soft ball and allow the catch after one bounce.
Standard
Throw from 4-5 yards and have the partner catch with no bounce.
Harder
The receiver starts facing away from the frame and only turns on hearing the ball hit.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student throws while seated from 3 yards and a partner collects and returns the rebound.
- Visual impairment: use a brightly colored ball and have a partner call out which side the rebound is heading.
- Lower skill: move the throw closer to the zone and use a lighter ball.
Learning goals
- Throw at the frame with an angle that directs the rebound.
- Anticipate the rebound's path and get in position to catch it.
- Coordinate turns and roles within the group.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tchoukball frame: 2
- team handballs: 6

Teacher tip
If you only have one or two frames, set up passing stations next to them so no one waits. Check the frame's tension and legs before class.
