Soft Lacrosse Feeding from Behind the Goal
A no-contact soft lacrosse scenario in which one attacker sets up behind the goal and feeds passes to teammates cutting toward the crease. Students work on accurate passing, getting open, and using the space behind the goal.
How to play
- Set up three 25 x 15 m (about 80 x 50 ft) fields with a small goal at one end and a 3 m (10 ft) crease around it marked with cones that only the goalie may enter.
- Groups of eight per field: one feeder behind the goal, three cutters, three defenders in pinnies, and a goalie. Everyone has a stick.
- Phase 1, 5 minutes with no defense: cutters start from 12 m out, cut toward one side of the goal, and catch the feed from behind to shoot on the run.
- Phase 2, 10 minutes: 4-on-3 plus a goalie. The feeder behind the goal cannot shoot; a goal off their feed is worth 2 points and any other goal is worth 1. The defense takes over on an interception or if the ball goes out of bounds.
- Rotate after each possession: feeder to cutter, cutter to defender, defender to goalie, and goalie to feeder.
Rules
- No contact: no stick checks or body contact; defend by blocking the passing lane.
- No one enters the crease; stepping in is a turnover.
- Shots are taken at waist height or lower and from outside the crease.
Variations
Easier
Allow one bounce before the catch and play phase 2 with no defenders.
Standard
A feeder behind the goal, 4-on-3 cuts, and a double-point goal off their feed.
Harder
The feeder has 5 seconds to pass and cutters must cross paths before catching.
Adaptations
- A student who uses a wheelchair can be the fixed feeder behind the goal, with a zone that defenders may not enter.
- For students with low vision, use high-contrast balls and shorten the passing distance to 6 m (20 ft).
- For less skilled students, allow picking up ground balls by hand in phase 1.
Learning goals
- Make accurate passes from behind the goal to a moving teammate.
- Cut toward the shooting area with a change of pace.
- Use the space behind the goal to create an advantage.

Teacher tip
