Set Shot to the Four Corners
In pairs, students take set shots from 7, 8, and 9 meters at hoops hung in the corners of the goal. They work on a high throwing elbow, stepping with the opposite foot, and aiming where a goalie has the hardest time reaching.
How to play
- Tie a hoop into each corner of both goals and mark shooting spots with cones at 7, 8, and 9 meters. Pairs split up, half at each goal.
- Demo the throw in 2 minutes: opposite foot forward, elbow above the shoulder, hips rotate, and the arm follows through across and down.
- One partner takes five shots from 7 meters while the other feeds and shags; then switch. Top hoop 3 points, bottom hoop 2, goal with no hoop 1.
- Every 4 minutes, pairs move back one cone until they reach 9 meters and try to beat their score.
- Last 3 minutes: shooters call the corner before throwing and only score if they hit that one.
Rules
- One pair per cone, and balls are collected only on the teacher's signal.
- No opposite-foot step, no points.
- Safety: no one stands inside the goal or in front of the shooters.
Variations
Easier
Shoot from 6 meters with a smaller ball and big hanging pinnies as targets.
Standard
Sets of five shots from 7, 8, and 9 meters at the corner hoops.
Harder
A partner stands still in the middle of the goal as a goalie with arms out.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student shoots seated or from a wheelchair at 5 meters, turning the trunk.
- Visual impairment: a partner claps next to the hoop to guide the throw.
- Fitness level: each student picks the starting distance and ball size.
Learning goals
- Take a set shot with the opposite foot forward and a high arm.
- Aim the ball accurately at the corners.
- Track and improve their own score.

Teacher tip
Many students sidearm with a low elbow, which strains the shoulder; cue 'elbow at shoulder height or higher.' Check that every hoop is tied tight.
