Pinfuvote 2-on-2: One Bounce, Alternating Hits
Pinfuvote doubles with the basic rules: any body part, one bounce at most, and alternating hits. Students work on deciding when and how to hit and on sportsmanship.
How to play
- Set up four courts with a rope at waist height and cones at the corners. Explain the serve, which can be made with a hand or foot from the back line (3 min).
- Free rally in each court, four pairs per court taking turns every two minutes (5 min).
- 2-on-2 games to 5 points; waiting pairs referee. After each game, winners move up a court and losers move down (16 min).
- Bonus round: a point won with the head or foot counts double (4 min).
- Put away equipment and debrief: which body part gave you the most control? (2 min).
Rules
- The ball may bounce once on your side before each hit.
- Up to three touches per pair and never two in a row by the same player.
- A point is lost if the ball bounces twice, goes out, or doesn't clear the rope.
- No jumping headers and no kicks above the waist near other players.
Variations
Easier
Players may catch once per rally and toss it back by hand.
Standard
One bounce, alternating hits, any body part.
Harder
Only one touch per pair: send it straight back.
Adaptations
- Students who are deaf or hard of hearing: the referee shows the score with fingers and signals the serve by raising a cone.
- Students who use wheelchairs: their partner covers the back while they play the front with their hands; two bounces allowed on their hits.
- Students with a lower-body injury: play only with hands and head while their partner uses their feet.
Learning goals
- Apply the basic pinfuvote rules in game play.
- Choose the right body part depending on the ball's height.
- Referee classmates respectfully and accept their calls.
Equipment for a class of 25
- foam balls: 8
- long ropes: 4
- cones: 16
Teacher tip
With 30 students, eight pairs play while the rest referee or wait on their court: rotate every game so no one referees twice in a row. The usual mistake is using only the hands; the double-point round gets students trying feet and heads.
