Partner Rep Bank Challenge
In pairs, while one student runs a lap of the course, the other piles up reps of a strength exercise; when the runner returns, they high-five and switch. The pair must complete a total rep target. It combines endurance, strength and teamwork.
How to play
- Mark a loop of about 100 m with cones around the work area. Give each pair a task card with the challenge: 150 jumping jacks, 100 squats, 80 mountain climbers and 50 push-ups (3 min).
- A starts running the lap while B does reps of the first exercise, counting out loud.
- When A returns, they high-five: B goes to run and A keeps adding reps of the same exercise until the pair reaches the total.
- Once an exercise is done, they move to the next one on the card. Reps only count while the partner is running.
- There's a 14-minute time cap. Pairs who finish early keep adding extra laps until time is up.
- Wrap-up: each pair shares their time or how far they got and what pacing strategy they used (3 min).
Rules
- Only one runner per pair can be on the loop at a time.
- Run outside the cones and pass on the outside.
- A sloppy rep doesn't count: form comes before speed.
- Tag off with a clear high-five, never a shove.
Variations
Easier
Shorten the loop to 60 m and cut the total reps in half.
Standard
A 100 m loop and a four-exercise card with a 14-minute cap.
Harder
A 150 m loop and a fifth exercise of 30 burpees.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student uses a shorter loop in a wheelchair and the exercises are adapted to the upper body.
- Students with autism: add boxes of 10 on the card to cross off so progress is visible.
- Low fitness level: allow brisk walking for the lap or easier versions of the exercises.
Learning goals
- Sustain continuous effort alternating running and strength exercises.
- Plan the work pace with a partner to complete a shared challenge.
- Perform bodyweight exercises with good form despite fatigue.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 10
- task cards: 13
Teacher tip
When students rush, form falls apart: circulate in the work area and cheerfully cancel bad reps. Pair students of similar ability so neither waits too long for the other.
