Partner Posture Photo Analysis
In pairs, students photograph each other from the side next to a plumb line, analyze their postural alignment, and retake the photo after a few simple corrective exercises. Technology is used for health while respecting privacy.
How to play
- Setup: hang plumb lines by the wall, tape foot marks on the floor, and mark the photographer's spot 10 feet away.
- Briefing (4 min): in aligned posture, ear, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle line up close to the plumb line. Show how to turn on the camera grid.
- Photo 1 (5 min): side view, standing relaxed, in gym clothes. Then a seated photo holding a phone. The partner marks on the checklist which points drift off the line.
- Corrective exercises (8 min): chin tucks, wall angels, and chest openers, 2 sets of 10 each.
- Photo 2 (5 min): retake the photos and compare them with the first ones on the tablet.
- Wrap-up (3 min): delete all photos in front of the teacher, and each student writes one habit they will change.
Rules
- Photos are taken only on school tablets and deleted at the end.
- Nobody photographs anyone without permission; comment only on alignment, never on bodies.
- Feedback is about posture and is always respectful.
Variations
Easier
Analyze only the standing side-view photo.
Standard
Analyze standing and seated with a phone, before and after.
Harder
Add a back view to compare shoulder and hip height.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: analyze seated posture in the student's own chair, with the plumb line to the side.
- Body-image concerns: analyze a drawn silhouette or serve as photographer.
- Visual impairment: a partner describes the alignment and guides the exercises by touch.
Learning goals
- Identify basic postural misalignments using a plumb line.
- Use a tablet responsibly as an analysis tool.
- Perform simple posture-correction exercises.

Teacher tip
Protect privacy carefully; it's what lets students take part comfortably. If you notice a marked curvature, don't mention it publicly; contact the family or school nurse discreetly.
