Korfball Attack Roles: Shooter, Rebounder, and Feeders
A korfball game where each four-player attack uses fixed roles: one shooter, one rebounder near the post, and two feeders who move the ball. Students work on offensive organization, ball movement, and rebounding for second chances.
How to play
- Set up a 30 x 15 m court in two zones with a post in each and make coed teams of 8; each group of four gets role cards (2 min).
- Whiteboard walk-through: the rebounder sets up near the post, the feeders spread wide, and the shooter finds an open spot 4-6 m (13-20 ft) out (3 min).
- 4-on-2 in one zone: two defenders move while the attack passes, shoots, and rebounds while keeping roles; 6 possessions, then switch (6 min).
- 4-on-4 per zone game: a goal off a rebound grabbed by the rebounder is worth 2; switch zones and role cards every two goals (10 min).
- Each team reviews which role was hardest and how rebounding helped (3 min).
Rules
- No shooting when the defender is between you and the post, facing you, with an arm up.
- No dribbling or running with the ball; keep a pivot foot.
- Each player guards someone of the same sex without blocking their path.
- On rebounds, jump straight up, not into an opponent.
Variations
Easier
Play 4-on-3 on offense, and the rebounder can't be guarded.
Standard
Fixed roles by card and double points for goals off a rebound.
Harder
Players switch roles freely but must call out their role before a shot.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: play feeder from a fixed spot marked with a cone.
- Autism or shyness: the role card includes a diagram of their spot and stays the same for two possessions in a row.
- Fitness level: the rebounder role requires less movement and can go to students who need it.
Learning goals
- Organize the attack with complementary roles.
- Use rebounds as a second scoring chance.
- Work as equals with teammates of a different sex.
Equipment for a class of 25
- korfball posts: 2
- balls: 4
- pinnies: 12
- role cards: 16
Teacher tip
Feeders tend to stand still; ask them to move after every pass. Keep the role cards in a box at each court to save time.
