Javelin Through the Window: Angle Between Two Cords
Students throw a foam javelin through a 'window' made by two cords at different heights a few meters from the line. It corrects the release angle and gets the javelin flying point first.

How to play
- Setup: two stands 4 m from the throwing line with a low and a high cord forming the window; sector marked with cones (4 min).
- Standing throws from the cocked position: the javelin must go between the cords (6 min).
- Three steps with the arm already back, then throw through the window (6 min).
- Each student tries throwing above and below the window and compares how it flies (5 min).
- Final round: five throws through the window, counting hits (4 min).
Rules
- Everyone throws from the same line toward the same sector.
- Retrieve only on the teacher's command, all at once.
- Carry the javelin tip down on the way back.
- Nobody goes near the stands while throws are happening.
Variations
Easier
Big window and throws from kneeling or standing.
Standard
Medium window and three steps.
Harder
Narrow window and five steps with a crossover.
Adaptations
- Visual impairment: a partner claps from behind the window line as a direction cue, always outside the sector.
- Wheelchair user: seated throw with a lower window.
- Sore shoulder: throw with the non-dominant hand at short distance.
Learning goals
- Throw with a suitable release angle.
- Make the javelin fly point first.
- Follow the throwing area safety routine.
Equipment for a class of 25
- foam javelins: 12
- elastic cords: 4
- high jump stands: 4
- cones: 12
Teacher tip
No stands? Two poles in tall cones or a lowered volleyball net work. Common mistake: releasing with a low elbow; cue 'elbow high, hand past your ear'.
