Floorball: Goalie Cuts the Angle and Reads the Shooter

A second goalie lesson: the goalie learns to sit on the bisecting line between the ball and the posts and to step out to cut down the angle. Shooters fire from a fan of five positions, and the goalie is filmed to analyze positioning.

How to play

  1. Using an imaginary string from each post to the ball, explain the bisector and how one step forward on the knees shrinks the gap; demonstrate with a student in goal (4 min).
  2. Mark a fan of five cones 7 m from each goal; the shooter moves from cone to cone without shooting and the goalie adjusts; a partner gives corrections (4 min).
  3. Soft shots from each cone; the goalie signals ready with a hand and the group films from behind the shooting line, out of the ball's path (8 min).
  4. Video review: on a frozen frame, draw the line from the ball to each post and check whether the goalie was centered (5 min).
  5. Final round: the shooter may fake the shot and the goalie tries not to drop early; rotate the position (4 min).

Rules

Variations

Easier

The goalie works only on positioning, facing balls rolled by hand.

Standard

Fan positioning, soft shots and video analysis.

Harder

The shooter receives a side pass before shooting, so the goalie must reposition as the ball moves.

Adaptations

Teacher tip

Run this lesson only after the basic stance lesson. A piece of string from each post to the ball really helps students see the bisector during the first explanation.
