Floorball Dribble-and-Shoot Waves
A floorball wave drill where students dribble the ball through a zigzag of cones, change direction, and finish with a wrist shot on a small goal. It builds ball control on both sides of the blade, shooting, and safe stick handling.
How to play
- Form 4 lines of 6 students on the end line, each with a stick; in front of each line, set 5 cones in a zigzag 2 yards apart and a small goal 6 yards past the last cone.
- Review the grip (2 min): dominant hand low, hands a hand-width apart, and the blade always below the knee.
- Wave 1 (4 min): the first student in each line dribbles through the cones using both sides of the blade and returns along the outside.
- Wave 2 (5 min): after the zigzag, take a wrist shot on goal, collect the ball, and pass it to the next student in line.
- Wave 3 (5 min): the next student starts when the one ahead passes the third cone; each goal earns a point for the line.
- Wrap-up (4 min): a 2-minute line contest to see which line scores the most goals with correct technique.
Rules
- The stick blade never goes above the knee, even when shooting.
- No intentionally playing the ball with your foot or hand.
- Shoot only once the student ahead has moved away from the goal.
- Safety: wait in line with your stick resting on the floor.
Variations
Easier
Space the cones 3 yards apart and shoot from 4 yards with no goalie.
Standard
Zigzag using both sides of the blade and a wrist shot from 6 yards.
Harder
Add a kneeling goalie and require a backhand shot.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student completes the course in a wheelchair with a short-handled stick and wider cone spacing.
- Autism: show the course with a peer model before starting and keep the same order in line.
- Lower skill: use a larger ball or a small foam ball that rolls more slowly.
Learning goals
- Dribble the ball using both sides of the blade while keeping control.
- Perform a wrist shot with the blade kept low.
- Handle the stick safely and respect classmates.
Equipment for a class of 25
- floorball sticks: 25
- balls: 8
- cones: 20
- small goals: 4
Teacher tip
Watch that no one raises the stick to shoot; it causes most accidental hits. If you are short on goals, use two cones and a rope at knee height.
