Floorball: Drag Dribble and Pass Fake in 1v1
A progression of two basic floorball moves: the lateral drag to switch the ball to the other side and the pass fake that makes the defender close down. It moves from a passive to an active defender, with points for dribbling through one of two cone gates.
How to play
- Demonstrate both moves: lateral drag with the blade across the front of the defender, and a pass fake with the body facing one side and the exit on the other (3 min).
- In pairs, each student practices both moves against a cone acting as the defender, alternating the exit side (4 min).
- Passive defender: the attacker starts from a line, the defender only sets the stick, and the attacker chooses the move and the gate; 5 tries and switch (5 min).
- Semi-active defender: may shift and try to touch the ball but cannot run backward; the attacker has 6 seconds to get through (5 min).
- Live 1v1 in an 8 x 8 m box with two 2-meter gates at the end; each pair records which move and which gate gives the most success (6 min).
- Quick reflection: which move worked best against each type of defender (2 min).
Rules
- No body contact; the defender can only play the ball with the stick.
- Hitting, lifting or hooking the opponent's stick is a foul and the attacker gets another try.
- The stick stays below the waist during moves and fakes.
- Each box has a 6-foot gap from the next one.
Variations
Easier
3-meter gates and an always-passive defender.
Standard
Progression from passive defender to live 1v1 with 2-meter gates.
Harder
A single 1.5-meter gate that the defender calls out loud before starting.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: attacks against a defender sitting on a chair, in a smaller box.
- Overweight: may rest 30 seconds between tries while keeping score.
- Hearing impairment: each try starts with a stick tap on the floor that both players can see.
Learning goals
- Perform the lateral drag and the pass fake with control.
- Choose the move based on the defender's position and weight shift.
- Defend without stick fouls or body contact.

Teacher tip
Remind students that the most effective move is usually made away from the defender, before the stick can reach the ball. Change partners in the 1v1 to balance skill levels.
