Floorball 4v2 Passing Rondo
A floorball rondo in which four attackers pass the ball around a square while two defenders try to steal it with their sticks without contact. It builds the flat pass, the directional first touch, supporting the ball carrier, and defending passing lanes.
How to play
- Form 4 groups of 6 (one extra student rotates in) and mark a 10 x 10-yard square with cones for each group; four attackers stand on the sides and two defenders in pinnies start in the middle.
- Skill warm-up (3 min): attackers pass with no defense, receiving on one side of the blade and passing with the other.
- Rondo (10 min): attackers make flat passes without the defenders touching the ball; every 6 passes in a row scores a point.
- When a defender touches the ball, they swap places with the attacker who made the pass; also switch both defenders every 2 minutes.
- Defenders may only block passing lanes and poke the ball with the blade, never hit an opponent's stick.
- Finish (5 min): play 3 on 3 in the same square; score by stopping the ball on a sideline after 3 passes.
Rules
- Passes stay on the floor and the blade never goes above the knee.
- No hitting, lifting, or hooking an opponent's stick.
- Attackers move along their side of the square to offer support instead of standing still.
- Safety: no body contact and no sticking the stick between an opponent's legs.
Variations
Easier
Play 4 on 1 in a 12 x 12-yard square.
Standard
Play 4 on 2 in 10 x 10 yards with 6 passes to score.
Harder
Limit players to two touches and shrink the square to 8 x 8 yards.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student holds a fixed side as an attacker and may keep the ball for 3 seconds without pressure.
- Hearing impairment: players ask for the ball by raising their free hand, and defender switches use a visual signal.
- Lower skill: the student gets two extra touches to control the ball.
Learning goals
- Make flat passes and directional first touches with the stick.
- Support the ball carrier by moving into space.
- Defend passing lanes legally and safely.
Equipment for a class of 25
- floorball sticks: 25
- balls: 4
- cones: 16
- pinnies: 8
Teacher tip
Remind attackers to move the ball before the pressure arrives; the typical mistake is staring at the ball. Watch that defenders don't sweep their sticks wildly.
