Floorball 3v3 with Official Rules and Rotating Referee
3v3 games to small goals without goalies on two mini-courts, applying the official floorball rules that come up most in school play. Waiting teams referee and log fouls, so everyone plays and everyone applies the rules.
How to play
- Review the key rules with one sheet per court: stick below the waist, no playing the ball above the knee, no hitting, lifting or hooking the opponent's stick, no playing while lying down or kneeling, no two foot touches in a row, and 3 m distance on free hits (5 min).
- Eight teams of three and four referees: on each 20 x 12 m court two teams play, one team referees with a whistle and another logs fouls and goals (2 min).
- 5-minute games; afterward, roles rotate on each court so the refereeing and scorekeeping teams play (20 min).
- Debrief with the sheets: which fouls were called most and what change in behavior would cut them down (3 min).
Rules
- Every foul is punished with a free hit from the spot, with defenders 3 m away.
- A dangerous high stick or hitting an opponent: the player sits out 1 minute and the team plays with two.
- No body contact except shoulder to shoulder without pushing.
- The student referee's call is final; the captain may ask for clarification at the end.
Variations
Easier
Only three rules apply: low stick, no high ball and free hit at 3 m.
Standard
Adapted official rules with rotating referee and scorekeeper.
Harder
Add the advantage rule: the referee lets play continue if the fouled team still has a clear chance.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair user: has a 6-foot zone around the chair that nobody enters with a stick.
- Hearing impairment: the referee raises an arm as well as whistling, and the sheet includes the signal for each foul.
- Autism: may start as scorekeeper to learn the rules before playing.
Learning goals
- Apply the official floorball rules during play.
- Referee and log fouls with good judgment and fairness.
- Adjust their own behavior to reduce team fouls.

Teacher tip
Small goals with no goalie make 3v3 faster and safer. Check that the student referees know the free-hit signal before the first game.
