Corner Hoops Shooting Challenge
Shooting challenges with hoops tied into the four corners of the goal: a shot through a hoop is worth more than a regular goal. Each student sets a personal target and tries to beat it. Students practice shooting accuracy, foot contact surfaces, and self-assessment.
How to play
- Tie four hoops into the corners of two goals with rope. Form four groups of 6 or 7: two groups per goal, shooting from two cones 9 yards out, one on each side.
- Trial round (3 min): each student takes 3 shots off a teammate's pass and records their points: through a hoop is 3 points; a goal outside the hoops is 1.
- Each student sets a personal target for the next rounds, for example beating their score by 2.
- Three 3-minute rounds: shot after a directional first touch, one-touch shot, and shot with the weaker foot. Groups alternate so they never shoot at the same time.
- Wrap-up (3 min): everyone compares their score to their target and explains which part of the foot gave them the most accuracy.
Rules
- Only one group shoots at each goal at a time; the other waits for its turn.
- Nobody collects balls until the last shooter in the round has gone.
- No one stands behind or beside the goal during shots.
Variations
Easier
Shoot from 6 yards with a stationary ball, and low and high hoops are worth the same.
Standard
Shots from 9 yards after a pass, with hoops worth 3 and regular goals worth 1.
Harder
Add a goalkeeper who may only move inside the goal box, and the top hoops are worth 5.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student shoots a stationary ball from closer in with a lighter ball.
- Visual impairment: a classmate claps next to the chosen hoop as a target cue.
- Higher skill level: the student scores only through the top hoops and shoots from 12 yards.
Learning goals
- Shoot accurately at a specific area of the goal.
- Choose the contact surface based on the type of shot.
- Set a personal target and reflect on your own progress.

Teacher tip
Check that the hoops are tied to the posts and not to the net, which could tear. Encourage placing the ball with the inside of the foot, because students tend to blast everything with the toe.
