Colpbol 3v2 Attack Waves
Continuous colpbol waves where three attackers use their numbers advantage against two defenders to score on goal. Students learn to spread out, pass to the open teammate, and switch fast from defense to offense.
How to play
- Mark a 20 x 30-yard field with a goal at each end; form 3 lines of attackers at one end, with 2 defenders in pinnies on the field and a goalie in each goal.
- Three attackers start by striking the ball with their hands and attack the two defenders; they have 15 seconds to shoot on goal.
- The player with the ball can't move while holding it; they advance by striking and bouncing or by passing.
- When the attack ends, the two defenders and that goalie counterattack toward the other goal against two new defenders (3 on 2 again).
- The three original attackers stay behind as two defenders and a goalie at that goal, so the waves never stop.
- Play 3 rounds of 6 minutes with a 1-minute break to explain how to spread the field with one player on each side and one in the middle.
Rules
- The ball is only played by striking it with the hand; only the goalie may catch it.
- Each player may strike no more than twice in a row before passing.
- No contact: defenders intercept passes, not players.
- Safety: the goalie stays in the crease and never dives at an attacker's feet.
Variations
Easier
Give 25 seconds per attack and don't let defenders intercept in the middle.
Standard
Continuous 3-on-2 waves with 15 seconds per attack.
Harder
A goal only counts if all three attackers have struck the ball.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student plays as a fixed goalie in a smaller goal.
- Shy students: pair them with a partner who always goes out in the same wave.
- Lower fitness: shorten the field to 20 yards and let the student rest one wave out of three.
Learning goals
- Use a numbers advantage by spreading out.
- Pass to the open teammate at the right moment.
- Make quick transitions between defense and offense.
Equipment for a class of 25
- colpbol balls: 4
- small goals: 2
- pinnies: 12
- cones: 12
Teacher tip
At first students bunch up in the middle; use cones to mark three lanes so they see how to spread out. Keep a spare ball next to each goal.
