Bronze, Silver and Gold Mission Board
Groups choose cooperative missions from a board with three difficulty and point levels, adding points toward a shared class goal. Students practice setting realistic goals, cooperating and assessing their own work.
How to play
- Post 12 challenge cards on the whiteboard: 5 bronze (10 points), 4 silver (20) and 3 gold (40), such as 30 passes without a drop or the whole group inside one hoop for 5 seconds (3 min).
- Make 5 groups of 5 and explain that the class needs 500 points to unlock a game of their choice at the end of the unit (2 min).
- Each group picks a mission, collects the equipment and attempts it in its area; when successful, it calls another group to verify and records the points on the board.
- Groups must complete a bronze before trying silver, and a silver before gold; no mission is repeated by the same group (15 min).
- At 10 minutes, take a 1-minute pause to check the class score so each group can adjust its plan.
- Wrap-up: check whether the goal was reached and have each group reflect on whether it chose the right level (4 min).
Rules
- Every group member takes part in every mission.
- Another group verifies honestly; if in doubt, the mission is repeated.
- A failed mission may be tried up to 3 times in a row.
- Safety: in balance or support missions, no one climbs on top of a classmate.
Variations
Easier
Set the class goal at 350 points and give gold missions more time.
Standard
Set a 500-point goal with the required bronze, silver, gold progression.
Harder
Gold missions are done with an extra restriction chosen by another group, such as no talking.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: every card includes an accessible version worth the same points.
- Autism: the group gets the board on a sheet with its missions already chosen to reduce uncertainty.
- Mixed fitness levels: groups are mixed and can share the workload among members.
Learning goals
- Set goals that match the group's abilities.
- Cooperate to complete movement challenges of increasing difficulty.
- Honestly assess their own work and other groups' work.
