Acrosport Photo Story: Stunts That Tell a Tale
Groups of four or five tell a short story in four acrosport "snapshots": each scene is a frozen stunt that shows one moment of the plot. Students combine safe partner stunts with expressive body language and wordless storytelling.
How to play
- Make groups of 4-5 with one mat each and hand every group a title card: "The Rescue," "The Storm," "The Big Game," "The Journey" (2 min).
- Each group picks four moments for its story: beginning, problem, most intense moment and ending (4 min).
- For each moment they build a partner or trio stunt that involves the whole group, adding gestures or facial expressions the audience can read (8 min).
- They rehearse moving between snapshots: count "one, two, three, freeze" and hold each stunt for 5 seconds (5 min).
- Each group performs its photo story without saying the title, and the class tries to guess the plot before it is revealed (6 min).
Rules
- Every snapshot includes at least one weight-sharing stunt and the whole group.
- Weight goes only on hips and shoulders, never on the lower back.
- Build and break down slowly between snapshots; nobody jumps off a stunt.
- While one group performs, everyone else watches quietly.
Variations
Easier
Cut the story to three snapshots and allow individual balance poses next to partner stunts.
Standard
Tell the story in four snapshots with at least one partner or trio stunt in each.
Harder
Add 8-count moving transitions between snapshots and a body narrator who links the scenes.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student can be the seated main character in every snapshot while the group builds stunts around them.
- Autism: draw the four story moments on the card so the student can see what comes next.
- Fitness level: students with less strength choose low counterbalance stunts instead of supporting weight.
Learning goals
- Tell a story through expressive frozen stunts.
- Build simple acrosport stunts using safe contact points.
- Plan a group sequence with a beginning, middle and end.
Equipment for a class of 25
- mats: 6
- cards: 8
Teacher tip
Prepare title cards with catchy prompts and keep a few spares. If a group gets stuck, have them build the final snapshot first and work backward.
