Wrist Shot: Corner Targets
Learning the floorball wrist shot, with hoops tied into the top corners of the goal as targets. The aim is accuracy with a low stick, not power.
How to play
- Demo: ball on the blade by the back foot, drag it forward and release with a snap of the wrists; the stick finishes pointing at the target and below the waist (3 min).
- Groups of three at each goal: standing shots from about five meters into an empty goal; one shoots, one collects, one gives feedback (5 min).
- Hoops are hung in the goal corners: touching or going through a hoop is worth three points, scoring outside the hoops is worth one (7 min).
- Shooting off the dribble: start at a cone, dribble a few meters, and shoot before a line of cones (6 min).
- Team challenge: each trio totals the points from five shots per person and tries to beat its own score from the previous round (4 min).
Rules
- Nobody stands behind or beside the goal while shooting is on.
- The collector only goes in after the whole trio has shot and the shooter says so.
- The stick stays below the waist before and after the shot.
- Only the player whose turn it is shoots; everyone else waits with their ball still.
Variations
Easier
Shoot from three meters with large hoops.
Standard
Shoot from five meters and off the dribble.
Harder
Backhand shots, or one-timers off a partner's pass.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair users: shoot from the chair with a short stick from an adjusted distance; the trio passes the ball onto their blade.
- Wrist injury: acts as the trio's coach, giving technique feedback and keeping score.
- Nervous students: shoot first at a chalk mark on a wall before moving to the goal.
Learning goals
- Perform the floorball wrist shot.
- Aim a shot at a specific area.
- Improve a team's own score.
Equipment for a class of 25
- floorball sticks: 30
- floorball balls: 30
- floorball goals: 4
- hula hoops: 8
- ropes: 8
- cones: 12
Teacher tip
If you don't have floorball goals, use two cones and a rope as a crossbar, with the hoops hung from it. The typical mistake is trying to blast it with a high backswing: score accuracy, not speed.
