Women's Soccer: Recreate the Style of a Top National Team
Teams watch a short clip of an elite women's national team or club, such as Spain's 2023 World Cup winners, describe it using tactical vocabulary and recreate it in a small-sided game. Students practice game analysis while giving visibility to women's soccer as a sporting and cultural role model.
How to play
- Show three short clips on the tablets from an elite women's team: a build-up from the back, an attack down the wing and a counterpress after losing the ball (5 min).
- Each team picks one play, watches it several times and lays it out on the ground with cones, showing positions and movements (6 min).
- Unopposed rehearsal of the chosen play, with one student acting as coach and comparing it to the clip (5 min).
- 6v6 game: each time a team recreates its play and finishes with a shot, it earns a bonus point (10 min).
- Group discussion: which players did you model and what was hardest to recreate? (4 min).
Rules
- Clips are watched as a group at low volume, without downloading unauthorized social media content.
- The game is played without slide tackles or contact from behind.
- Teams are coed and the coach role rotates.
- The bonus point is awarded by the opposing team if they recognize the play.
Variations
Easier
Recreate only the build-up from the back, unopposed.
Standard
One play per team, rehearsed and applied in a 6v6 game.
Harder
Each team combines two plays and the opponents must identify which match they came from.
Adaptations
- Visual impairment: a partner narrates the clip and the student directs the cone layout with verbal instructions.
- Hearing impairment: clips are shown with captions or with written commentary from the teacher.
- Limited mobility: acts as the team's coach and compares the execution with the clip.
Learning goals
- Analyze real plays with tactical vocabulary.
- Recreate team patterns of play in a small-sided game.
- Recognize women's soccer as a sporting and cultural role model.

Teacher tip
Prepare the short clips in advance and choose simple three- or four-pass plays: if the play is long, the group gets lost in the details.
