Wall Setting Rotation Line
Groups of 4 line up facing a wall: the first player sets the ball against the wall above a line and goes to the back, and the next player must set the rebound without letting it drop. It improves set accuracy and height, getting under the ball, and teamwork in a chain.
How to play
- Mark a line on the wall at about 8 feet with masking tape; groups of 4 line up 6 feet from the wall, each group with a light ball (2 min).
- The first player tosses and sets the ball against the wall above the line, then exits to the right and goes to the back of the line.
- The second player steps forward, gets under the rebound, and sets it against the wall again; and so on.
- Record round (4 min): each group counts sets in a row above the line without a drop; if it drops, start over.
- Clock round (4 min): how many good sets can the group make in 1 minute? Take 3 tries and record the best.
- Free round (3 min): students may set or bump depending on how the rebound arrives; finish with each group sharing its best score (1 min).
Rules
- The player who touches always exits the same way, to the right, so they don't cross the next player.
- Only sets that hit above the line count.
- Leave at least 10 feet of open wall between groups.
- If the ball gets away, the player who touched it goes to get it while the group waits.
Variations
Easier
Lower the line to 6.5 feet and allow one bounce on the floor before each touch.
Standard
Line at about 8 feet, lines of 4, and sets with no bounce.
Harder
Each player self-sets once before setting against the wall, and the line goes up to 10 feet.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: takes part seated 5 feet from the wall with their own line at 5 feet, and their touch counts toward the group record.
- Hearing impairment: the start and end of each round are signaled with a colored card.
- Lower skill level: may catch the rebound and toss it off the fingertips against the wall.
Learning goals
- Set accurately above a marked height.
- Quickly get under a ball coming off the wall.
- Cooperate as a group to reach a shared score.

Teacher tip
If there's no smooth wall, any windowless gym wall works. Ask students to get under the ball rather than chase it with their arms.
