How to play
- Explain and demo: open the hips and receive with the far foot, pushing the ball where you will pass next (3 min).
- Groups of three in a cone triangle 8 m per side; in the middle of each side, a 1 m gate: the first touch must carry the ball through it (5 min).
- Switch direction every minute to use both feet (4 min).
- One player acts as a passive defender behind the receiver and calls "right" or "left" just before the pass: turn the other way (5 min).
- Trio challenge: 15 first touches in a row through the gate (3 min).
Rules
- Firm ground passes; no blasting.
- The touch counts only if the ball crosses the gate on the first touch.
- The passive defender does not touch or steal the ball.
- Each group stays inside its own triangle.
Variations
Easier
Two touches allowed and a 2 m gate.
Standard
Directional first touch through a 1 m gate.
Harder
Directional touch then a one-touch pass, never stopping the ball.
Adaptations
- Visual impairment: bell ball, smaller triangle and an audible cue from the passer.
- Limited mobility: receives with the hands from the wheelchair and turns toward the next player before releasing.
- Beginners: grouped with someone who passes slowly to their strong foot first.
Learning goals
- Steer the first touch into open space.
- Open the body before receiving.
- Receive with both feet.
Equipment for a class of 25
- soccer balls: 10
- cones: 30
Teacher tip
Mark gates with cones of a different color. The typical error is trapping dead and then turning: praise the touch that keeps the ball moving.
