Think-Pair-Share Cool-Down
Given a question about the lesson, students think on their own while stretching, talk it over with a partner, and then share in groups of four, with a different stretch for each phase. Students practice recovery and building knowledge together.
How to play
- Students set up on yoga mats in pairs and the teacher poses a question, such as: "Which muscles worked hardest today, and why?" (1 minute).
- Think: 2 minutes of silent individual quad and calf stretches while coming up with your own answer.
- Pair: sitting face to face with legs apart, partners hold hands and take turns stretching each other's back while comparing answers (2 minutes).
- Share: two pairs form a group of four lying in a star shape and agree on a single answer (2 minutes).
- One speaker from each group shares the answer and the teacher briefly adds to it or corrects it (1 minute).
Rules
- No talking during the think phase.
- In the partner stretch, the person stretching sets the limit and the partner never yanks.
- Everyone must contribute before the group decides.
- Keep mats spread apart so no one gets stepped on.
Variations
Easier
The question has three possible answers that the teacher shows on a poster.
Standard
One open question about the lesson with all three phases.
Harder
The group of four must also suggest one exercise that would have improved the lesson.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: all stretches are done seated and the partner sits beside the wheelchair.
- Autism: post the phases and their timing on a visible sign so changes are predictable.
- Low flexibility: students may bend their knees in the partner stretch.
Learning goals
- Connect the lesson's exercises to the muscle groups involved.
- Build answers together starting from their own ideas.
- Use gentle stretches independently after exercise.
Equipment for a class of 25
- yoga mats: 25
Teacher tip
Prepare the question before class and write it large so no one forgets it. If a group finishes early, ask them to back it up with an example from class.
