The Raindrop's Big Journey

A water cycle movement story: each child is a raindrop living in a cloud who falls as rain, forms a river chain, reaches the sea and rises again with the sun. Kids practice creative movement, high and low levels, and moving as a group.

How to play

  1. The cloud (2 min): everyone together in the middle, hugging and crouched: 'We're tiny drops in a cloud.' Sway slowly side to side.
  2. The rain (2 min): fast tambourine taps: the drops leave the cloud and fall all over the gym with soft little hops until they reach the floor.
  3. The river (3 min): take one drop's hand and keep adding the others into a long chain. The river walks in a zigzag, fast downhill and slow on the flat.
  4. The waterfall (2 min): the river lets go and each drop crouches and gently drops down, rolling on the floor.
  5. The sea (3 min): in pairs, kids hold a colored fabric by the corners and make waves: up and down, gentle and strong. Say: 'Here comes a big wave!' and everyone makes it together.
  6. The sun (2 min): drop the fabric. 'The sun comes out and warms us': the drops evaporate, rising very slowly from the floor up to tiptoes, and return to the middle to form the cloud.

Variations

Easier

For 3-year-olds, make the river in pairs instead of one long chain.

Standard

Tell the full cycle with every part.

Harder

For 5-year-olds, repeat the cycle and let them call out which part comes next.

Teacher tip

Play rain or ocean sounds if you have a speaker; it sets the mood. The long chain works best if you always lead it.
