Team Handball Fake-and-Pass Lines
A team handball warm-up with two facing lines that pass on the run, add a fake in front of a cone, and finish with an easy shot on goal. It gets shoulders and legs ready for throwing and quick changes of direction.
How to play
- Set two facing lines 30 feet apart on each half of the court (about 6 students per line) with a cone in the middle as a defender.
- Minutes 0-2: shoulder mobility with the ball: circles, passing the ball hand to hand behind the back, and trunk rotations.
- Minutes 2-4: passing on the run: the first player runs toward the other line, passes halfway, and joins the back of the opposite line.
- Minutes 4-6: at the cone, add a fake (step one way, drive the other) before passing.
- Minutes 6-9: the line closest to the goal finishes each attack with a set shot at 60 percent power; the goalkeeper rotates every 4 shots.
- Minutes 9-10: each student takes two easy jump shots, then stretches the shoulders.
Rules
- Always catch with two hands and spread fingers; no passes aimed at the face.
- Three steps maximum while holding the ball; count them out loud at first.
- Shots go to the low corners at half power during the warm-up.
- Goalkeepers only step in when the teacher says so and may face a softer ball.
Variations
Easier
Students pass while standing and walk to the cone, with no final shot.
Standard
Pass on the run, fake at the cone, and set shot at 60 percent power.
Harder
Replace the cone with a passive defender and finish with a jump shot.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student acts as a fixed passer next to the cone and shoots at a goal with marked scoring zones.
- Autism or shyness: offer the role of goalkeeper with a foam ball or pass counter before joining the line.
- Lower skill level: use a smaller-size handball or a foam ball for an easier grip.
Learning goals
- Prepare the shoulder joint to throw safely.
- Perform a fake and a running pass while following the three-step rule.
- Take on goalkeeper and shooter turns responsibly.
Equipment for a class of 25

Teacher tip
The usual error is throwing with the elbow below the shoulder: cue "elbow high, hand behind the ear." Keep shots on goal few at first so cold shoulders aren't overloaded.
