Synchro Skipping: Two Ropes, One Jump

How to play
- Partners side by side with their own ropes: ten two-foot jumps, counting out loud to start together (4 min).
- The leader changes steps every eight jumps and the partner follows without losing sync (5 min).
- Face to face as mirrors: same steps, opposite foot for sideways steps (5 min).
- Challenges: thirty seconds without going out of sync, then join another pair and jump as four (6 min).
Rules
- Two meters between pairs and a meter and a half within the pair.
- Shared count: "Three, two, one, go" before each set.
- If one person misses, both stop and restart together.
- Take turns leading: a different leader each set.
Variations
Easier
Two-foot bounce and alternate foot only, side by side.
Standard
Step changes with a leader plus face-to-face mirroring.
Harder
Synchronized groups of four with a criss-cross all at once.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair users: a side rope swing synced to the partner's jump.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: the leader cues start and changes with a head nod.
- Students with less rope experience: partner with someone at a similar level, slow tempo.
Learning goals
- Match your jump rhythm to another person's.
- Link jump rope steps without stopping.
- Take turns leading and following.
Equipment for a class of 25
- jump ropes: 30
Teacher tip
The sound of the rope hitting the ground is the best cue: ask them to hear "one single slap" instead of two. Pair students of similar height so the ropes turn at a similar speed.
