Stop It on the Line: Hockey with No Goals
A 4v4 game with no goals: you score by stopping the ball under your stick on the opponent's end line. With no shots, the game is about keeping possession, getting open and arriving with control.
How to play
- Explain: two courts in the gym, each end line marked with cones; a point counts when the ball is stopped under the stick right on the line (3 min).
- 4v4 games with the basic rule (6 min).
- New condition: the point counts only if all four teammates touched the ball in that play (5 min).
- The scoring line shrinks to a three-meter zone in the middle of the end line, marked by cones (4 min).
- Wrap-up: each team shares what it did so everyone touched the ball (2 min).
Rules
- No shots or slaps: only dribbles and push passes.
- Defenders can't park on their line; they have to step up and pressure.
- No touching an opponent's stick or body; sticks stay low.
Variations
Easier
Wider court and 4v3 in favor of the attacking team.
Standard
4v4 with the everyone-touches rule.
Harder
Narrow scoring zone and a maximum of three touches per player.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair users: their points count double, and opponents can't pressure them within one meter.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: use agreed visual signals to start and stop play.
- Students who usually drift out of the game: the everyone-touches rule guarantees them a role.
Learning goals
- Keep possession as a team under pressure.
- Get open to receive and move forward.
- Make sure everyone takes part in every attack.
Equipment for a class of 25
- floorball sticks: 30
- floorball balls: 4
- cones: 16
- pinnies: 15
Teacher tip
This is a great game for groups wary of hard shots, because there are none. If a team camps on its own line, bring in the step-up rule and praise it when they follow it.
