Skill Badges: Unlock Levels with Video Evidence
A gamified class built around a badge board: four skill families (jump rope, juggling, balance and ball handling) with three levels each. Students choose their challenges, practice, and unlock levels when a partner films the attempt and checks it against criteria.
How to play
- Present the board with the four families and bronze, silver and gold levels, each with written success criteria (3 min).
- Each student picks two challenges for the class and pairs up with a validation partner (2 min).
- Free practice at stations with self-assessment and peer help (15 min).
- When someone thinks they've mastered a level, their partner films a 15-second attempt and checks it against the criteria list; if it passes, the badge goes on the board (10 min).
- Wrap-up: everyone writes on their worksheet which badge they'll go for next time and what they'll practice at home (5 min).
Rules
- Only a complete filmed attempt checked against the criteria list counts.
- The video is deleted after validation unless the student wants to keep it.
- No one loses badges: you can only add them.
- Each station has its own space; don't spill into the next one.
Variations
Easier
Bronze level is validated on the spot, with no video.
Standard
Four families with three levels and video validation.
Harder
To earn gold, you have to teach the challenge to a classmate until they earn bronze.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair user: families include seated versions of juggling, object balancing and passing.
- Visual impairment: challenges with a beeping ball and criteria explained through touch.
- Autism: a picture-based board and a fixed list of steps for each level.
Learning goals
- Set realistic motor learning goals.
- Assess a classmate honestly using criteria.
- Improve specific skills through independent practice.
Equipment for a class of 25
- jump ropes: 10
- juggling balls: 30
- balls: 8
- tablets or phones: 7

Teacher tip
The board can be poster board or a projected shared spreadsheet. Spot-check a few validations so the system stays credible and no one inflates their badges.
