Shooter and Rebounder Minute Challenge
In pairs, one partner shoots for one minute from different spots while the other rebounds and passes; then they switch. Baskets score by distance and the pair tries to beat its record. Students practice catch-and-shoot, passing and focus while tired.
How to play
- At each basket, set 3 green spots at 6 ft (1 point) and 3 red spots at 12 ft (2 points); put two pairs per basket, one on each side.
- The shooter waits on a spot with hands ready; the rebounder under the rim gets the ball and chest passes it out.
- For 1 minute, the shooter changes spots after every shot and the rebounder counts points out loud.
- On the whistle, switch roles; between turns there are 30 seconds to write down the total and pick one improvement.
- Play 3 full rounds and compare each total with the previous one.
- At the end, each pair explains whether close or far spots worked better.
Rules
- A basket counts only with feet next to the spot.
- The rebounder passes to the chest, never throws from far away.
- Each pair stays on its half of the basket.
Variations
Easier
Every basket is worth 1 and shots are from 5 to 8 ft.
Standard
1- and 2-point spots, changing spots after every shot.
Harder
The shooter catches on the move and 3-point spots are added at 15 ft.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: accessible spots and no need to change spots.
- Visual impairment: the rebounder says 'ball' before passing and a ball with bells is used.
- Lower fitness: 45-second turns.
Learning goals
- Shoot with good form after catching a pass.
- Stay focused even when tired.
- Set a pair goal and check for improvement.
Equipment for a class of 25
- youth basketballs: 13
- basketball hoops: 6
- poly spots: 36
- stopwatch: 1
Teacher tip
Have shooters catch with knees already bent so they shoot without extra steps. If you are short on baskets, hang hula hoops on the wall bars as targets.
