Royal Crown Parade
Each child wears a beanbag on their head like a crown and parades like a king or queen without letting it fall. Kids work on dynamic balance, tall posture, and controlling slow movements.
How to play
- Give each child a beanbag and sit the class in a circle. Say: "Today we are kings and queens, and our crowns must not fall." Put a beanbag on your head and walk very tall.
- Start still: standing, they put the crown on their head and count to five without moving. If it falls, they pick it up and try again. 2 minutes.
- With slow music, everyone parades around the gym, spread out, slowly and looking ahead. "Head up high, like a queen." 3 minutes.
- When the music stops, say: "Bow!" They bend their knees a little and wave without dropping the crown. Repeat at every stop. 3 minutes.
- Royal challenges: "the king sits on his throne" (sit on the floor and stand up), "the queen goes through the castle door" (walk under the teacher's arms), "walk backward." 3 minutes.
- Wrap-up: everyone sits in a circle wearing their crown and takes it off together when you say, "The parade is over!" 1 minute.
Rules
- If my crown falls, I pick it up and keep parading.
- Walk slowly, no running, no bumping others.
- We never take anyone else's crown.
- Hands touch the crown only to put it back on.
Variations
Easier
Carry the beanbag on an open palm or a shoulder.
Standard
Beanbag on the head while walking and bowing.
Harder
Sit down and stand up from the floor without dropping the crown.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: parade in a wheelchair or walker with the beanbag on the head or on a hand.
- Hearing loss: instead of stopping the music, hold up a red card for the bow.
- More skilled kids carry two beanbags (head and hand); kids who need support carry it on a shoulder.
Learning goals
- Keep an object on the head while moving.
- Hold a tall, controlled posture.
- Lower and rise slowly without losing balance.
Equipment for a class of 25
- beanbags: 20
- music: 1
Teacher tip
Use very slow, calm music; with fast music the beanbags go flying. Praise specific posture out loud: "Look how tall Mia's neck is!"
