Routine Script: Entrance, Figures and Exit to Music
First session of the final project: each group writes and rehearses the script for its acrosport routine with an entrance, at least four figures, transitions and an exit. Creation is organized in eight-count blocks.
How to play
- Introduce the project and the rubric: safety, variety of figures (pairs, trios and group), transitions, timing to the music, and expression. Groups of five or six choose from three royalty-free instrumental tracks (6 min).
- Script on the sheet: a table of eight-count blocks noting what happens in each (traveling, building, holding, dismounting) (8 min).
- Rehearse in parts: entrance and first figure (8 min).
- Rehearse figures 2, 3 and 4 with their transitions (12 min).
- Exit and frozen ending. First full run with music (8 min).
- Each group writes on the script two things to improve for the dress rehearsal (3 min).
Rules
- Only figures already practiced in class; nothing new without the teacher's OK.
- Every figure has a spotter assigned in the script.
- Every member is a base or a flyer at least once.
- Music at a volume that lets the group hear its calls.
Variations
Easier
Three-figure routine with a script partly filled in by the teacher.
Standard
Four figures, entrance, transitions and exit.
Harder
Six figures, one with a prop and one section in canon.
Adaptations
- Hearing impairment: the script includes visual cues for each block change and one group member shows the counts.
- Temporary injury: directs rehearsal, counts the beats and appears in the routine in non-weight-bearing positions.
- Wheelchair user: the group designs at least one figure with them at its center (hand-support base, frame or finishing point).
Learning goals
- Organize an acrosport routine in eight-count blocks.
- Combine figures, transitions and traveling with music.
- Share roles fairly within the group.
Equipment for a class of 25
- gym mats: 16
- speaker: 1
- script sheets: 6
- pencils: 6
Teacher tip
Show the rubric on day one: it avoids surprises and guides all the work. A group that's stuck is usually still choosing music: give them three options already cut to 2 minutes.
