Results Log with Closing Stretches
A cool-down where students record the day's results in their track and field log and compare them with earlier ones while doing gentle stretches. It brings the heart rate down and turns data into personal goals.
How to play
- Walk for two minutes breathing through the nose until you feel your pulse drop (2 min).
- On the mat, stretch hamstrings and calves for 30 seconds per leg (2 min).
- Seated, write on the worksheet today's result, your previous best and the difference in inches or seconds (3 min).
- Side-lying quad and hip flexor stretch while thinking of one specific technique goal (2 min).
- Two or three students share their goal for next class out loud (1 min).
Rules
- Stretches are gentle, with no bouncing and no pain.
- Everyone records only their own data; nobody has to show results they don't want to share.
- Keep the space calm and quiet while students write.
Variations
Easier
Record only today's result and one word about how you felt.
Standard
Today's result, comparison with the previous one and one technique goal.
Harder
Calculate the percentage improvement and relate it to the session's Borg rating.
Adaptations
- Visual impairment: dictates the data to a partner or saves it as a voice memo on a phone.
- Limited mobility: does the stretches in the wheelchair using a band or towel.
- Dyslexia: uses a worksheet with boxes and large numbers, without long text.
Learning goals
- Bring the heart rate down gradually.
- Record and analyze personal progress in track and field events.
- Set realistic technique goals based on data.
Equipment for a class of 25
- worksheets: 28
- yoga mats: 28
Teacher tip
Keep the worksheets in one folder per class so they're handy for grading. It works best if the worksheet already has earlier sessions printed on it.
