Quick Feet Stations: Dots, Lines, and Hoops
A four-station quick feet circuit: the five dots, the chalk line, the hoop path, and the numbered square. At each station students count clean contacts in 20 seconds to beat their own score. It builds foot speed, coordination, and agility.
How to play
- Set up four stations: 1) five chalk dots like a die, 2 feet apart; 2) a 10-foot line; 3) six hoops in a row; 4) a four-box numbered square. Make four groups of 6 or 7, one per station (3 min).
- Explain: on the dots, two-foot jumps from center to each corner and back; on the line, two-foot side-to-side jumps; on the hoops, both feet in and both out; on the square, the 1-2-3-4 sequence the group calls (2 min).
- At each station 2 or 3 students work at once for 20 seconds while their partner counts clean contacts; then switch. Two tries each (part of the rotation).
- Rotate every 3 minutes on a whistle, clockwise, until every group has done all four stations (12 min).
- Final round at your favorite station to beat your score, then share a tip that helped, like "stay on your toes" or "relaxed arms" (3 min).
Rules
- Only contacts that don't touch a line or hoop count: quality first, then speed.
- Stay on the balls of your feet, knees slightly bent, no high jumps.
- Each student competes only against their own score.
Variations
Easier
Work for 15 seconds, set dots 16 inches apart, and always use the same square sequence.
Standard
Two 20-second tries per station, counting clean contacts.
Harder
Hop on one foot on the line and dots, and change the square sequence every try.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: each station has a hands version (tapping dots or hoops on a bench) or wheelchair turns between cones.
- Deaf or hard of hearing: also signal start and stop by raising and lowering an arm.
- Fitness level: students who tire do one try per station; students who find it easy add a second pattern.
Learning goals
- Increase foot speed while keeping accuracy.
- Coordinate foot movements in different directions.
- Record their own score and recognize their improvement.
Equipment for a class of 25
- chalk: 4
- hoops: 6
- stopwatch: 1
Teacher tip
Draw the stations before class and make sure hoops sit on dry ground so they don't slide. Correct students who stare at their feet: look slightly ahead.
