Pinfuvote 4v4 Multi-Skill Net Game
An alternative net sport that blends foot, soccer, volleyball and tennis skills: the ball can be struck with any body part and may bounce between touches. Students work on coordination with different body parts, teamwork to build an attack and decision making.
How to play
- Use a volleyball court or a 30 x 60 ft area with the net at about 6.5 ft. Teams of 4 in pinnies, two games at once if space allows; others wait to rotate in (3 min).
- Explain the adapted rules: each team has up to 4 touches; the ball may bounce once between touches; no player hits twice in a row and the ball can't be held.
- 4-minute cooperative rally: each team tries to send the ball over using at least three different body parts (hand, foot, head, knee).
- Game to 15 with a foot or hand serve from the back line and position rotation on every side-out (10 min).
- Switch opponents for the last stretch and finish with a question: which combination of touches earned the most points? (5 min).
Rules
- The ball is never caught or carried; it is struck.
- Don't go under the net or touch it.
- No raising a foot above the waist when a teammate or opponent is close.
Variations
Easier
Allow two bounces between touches and lower the net to about 5 ft.
Standard
Up to 4 touches per team with one bounce between them.
Harder
Each team touch must use a different body part.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: plays near the net, may hit with the hand after two bounces, and their touch is required on every attack.
- Shy students: keep teams stable and let a teammate help with their first serve.
- Advanced players: may not use their hands.
Learning goals
- Strike the ball with control using different body parts.
- Work with the team to build an attack over several touches.
- Value an alternative sport as an inclusive recreational option.
Equipment for a class of 25
- nets: 2
- soft balls: 4
- cones: 16
Teacher tip
Use a soft, light ball about 8 in across; it bounces well and doesn't hurt on headers. At first students only use their hands, so award a bonus point for a winner struck with the foot.
