Photo Puzzle: Find the Final Treasure Spot
Each team hunts for six envelopes hidden around the playground; each one holds a piece of a photo. When the team puts the puzzle together, the photo shows the corner where its treasure box is hidden. It builds organized searching, teamwork and recognizing places.
How to play
- Take a photo of one playground corner per team, print it and cut it into 6 pieces. Put each piece in an envelope of the team's color and hide the envelopes around the playground.
- Hide a treasure box (with stickers or a final challenge) in the corner shown in each photo.
- Make 4 teams of 6. Each team splits into three pairs, and each pair searches the area of the playground the teacher assigns.
- Pairs bring envelopes of their color back to home base without opening them; if they see another color, they leave it and tell that team.
- With all 6 envelopes, the team assembles the puzzle on the ground, recognizes the place and goes together to find the box. About 12 minutes in total.
- Afterward, teams swap corners: they hide their box again and give the whole photo to another team for a quick round.
Rules
- Envelopes are opened only at home base with the whole team.
- Never move another team's envelopes.
- Teams go to the box together and walk through the last areas.
- Search only inside the boundaries.
Variations
Easier
Photos cut into 4 large pieces and envelopes hidden in plain sight.
Standard
Six pieces per team, area-by-area searching and a hidden treasure box at the end.
Harder
Close-up photos of small details (a cracked tile, a mural) that make teams walk the area to identify the spot.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student assembles the puzzle at home base and directs the team, or searches the flattest area.
- Autism or shyness: assign a steady partner and a clear job (bringing envelopes to home base).
- Fitness level: pairs who need less running search the area closest to home base.
Learning goals
- Search in an organized way by dividing up areas.
- Recognize a playground location from a rebuilt image.
- Cooperate to reach a shared goal.
Equipment for a class of 25
- printed photos: 4
- envelopes: 24
- treasure boxes: 4
Teacher tip
Number the envelopes on the back so you know if one is missing at cleanup. If a team finishes early, ask them to help another team assemble its puzzle without giving away the spot.
