Partner Steal the Bacon with a Pass
A Steal the Bacon twist where pairs run out and whoever grabs the handkerchief must pass it to their partner before heading home. Students practice cooperation, faking, reaction time, and decision-making in two-on-two situations.
How to play
- Mark two home lines 20 yd apart and a center cone. Two teams of 12 stand on their lines, organized into 6 pairs numbered 1 to 6. One student holds the handkerchief in the middle (2 min).
- The holder calls a number and that pair from each team runs out: two on two.
- Anyone may grab the handkerchief, but it must be passed to the partner, handed or tossed, at least once before going home.
- The other pair tries to tag the carrier: a tag scores for them; if the carrier crosses the home line, their team scores.
- If the handkerchief drops during a pass, anyone may pick it up and play continues with the same rule.
- Play to 10 points or 6 minutes, then mix up the pairs and switch the holder. Play two games.
Rules
- Tag with a hand on the back or arm only; no grabbing or pushing.
- No one may touch anyone until the handkerchief is grabbed.
- Crossing the center too early gives the point to the other team.
- When reaching down for the handkerchief, keep your eyes on your opponent to avoid head bumps.
Variations
Easier
Pairs may go home without a pass if they hold hands.
Standard
Two on two with one required pass before crossing the line.
Harder
Two required passes, plus a bonus point if the defending pair tags no one.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: run a shorter distance marked with cones and receive the pass seated if needed.
- Hearing impairment: the number is called out and shown with fingers.
- Fitness level: match pairs of similar ability so duels stay even.
Learning goals
- Work with a partner to keep an object under pressure.
- Decide when to grab, wait, or pass.
- Accept game calls and appreciate a partner's effort.
Equipment for a class of 25
- handkerchief: 2
- cones: 9
Teacher tip
At first partners pass right next to an opponent; encourage them to spread out before receiving. If one pair always wins, change their opponents rather than the rules.
