Partner Fitness Wheel Rotation
Two concentric circles form partners who change every rotation: each student in the inner circle holds a partner strength challenge card, and the outer circle rotates to meet a new partner and a new challenge. Students build bodyweight strength and connect with the whole class.
How to play
- Set up two circles using 12 cones: 12 students inside facing out and 12 or 13 outside facing in. Each inner-circle student gets a challenge card (2 min).
- Sample challenges: high-five push-ups, back-to-back squats, plank with alternating hand slaps, curl-ups with a hand clap, mirror lunges, glute bridges with feet sole to sole, and a squat hold holding hands.
- While the music plays, each pair does the card's challenge for 40 seconds; the inner student reads the card out loud and both perform it.
- When the music stops (20 seconds), the outer circle moves one spot to the right. If there is an extra student, they wait at the wild card spot jogging lightly.
- First lap: 12 rotations of 1 minute each (12 min).
- Short second lap (3 min): circles swap, the outer group moves inside with the cards flipped to the hard side; 3 rotations.
Rules
- Every challenge is done with your partner, never against them.
- The card reader makes sure both partners do the correct version.
- Safety: hand slaps are gentle, and back-to-back squats are done with partners of about the same height.
Variations
Easier
Do the challenges side by side individually, facing each other, with 30 seconds of work.
Standard
Twelve 40-second partner strength challenges with continuous rotation.
Harder
The hard side of the cards: versions with jumps, one leg, or longer holds.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: cards include seated or supported standing versions, and the student can stay in the inner circle.
- Shyness: the challenges don't require talking, just reading or pointing to the card.
- Lower fitness: each card has an easier version marked with a green dot.
Learning goals
- Perform bodyweight strength exercises cooperatively with different partners.
- Interact respectfully with the whole class, not just friends.
- Follow a work-rest cycle signaled by music.
Equipment for a class of 25
- challenge cards: 12
- music (speaker): 1
- cones: 12
Teacher tip
Laminate two-sided picture cards (regular and hard). This format breaks up the usual cliques, so insist on a greeting before each challenge.
