Parking Lot Questions Board
While stretching on their mats, students write one question left over from class on a sticky note and stick it in the "parking lot" on the wall; the teacher answers a few out loud and saves the rest for next class. Students practice understanding and independence.
How to play
- Before class, draw a parking lot with spaces on paper or a wall, one space per lesson topic: technique, health, rules, other.
- After the main activity, each student grabs a sticky note and a pen and sits on a yoga mat.
- For 2 minutes, while holding a seated leg stretch, each student writes down one question or something that wasn't clear.
- Five at a time, students stand up, park their note in the matching topic space, and return to their mats for a back stretch (2 minutes).
- The teacher reads and answers 3 or 4 repeated questions while the class does shoulder and neck stretches (3 minutes).
Rules
- Each note holds one question, written clearly.
- Notes are anonymous unless someone wants to sign theirs.
- Walk slowly to the parking lot; no running.
- "None" doesn't count: if you have no questions, write something you're curious about on the topic.
Variations
Easier
Post a list of sample questions on the whiteboard for anyone who isn't sure what to write.
Standard
Each student parks one question and the teacher answers the most repeated ones.
Harder
Before the teacher answers, classmates try to answer each other's questions.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: a classmate parks the note for them, or place the board at their height.
- Visual impairment: the student can whisper the question to the teacher or use large notes and a marker.
- Insecure students: staying anonymous lets them ask without being singled out.
Learning goals
- Identify which parts of the lesson they didn't understand.
- Ask specific questions about technique, health, or rules.
- Hold stretches independently while reflecting.
Equipment for a class of 25
- sticky notes: 30
- pens: 25
- yoga mats: 25
Teacher tip
Open the next class by answering the parked questions so students see that asking pays off. The topic spaces give you a quick read on what needs reteaching.
