Mirror Acrosport: Synchronized Twin Groups
Two trios face each other and build the same acrosport stunts as mirror images at the same time, as if a pane of glass stood between them. It builds timing, spatial symmetry, communication between groups, and safe stunt building.
How to play
- Form trios and pair each trio with another one: they're "twin groups." Place two mats together for each pair of trios, with an imaginary mirror line down the middle.
- Each trio picks 4 pair or trio stunts they already know. The twin trios agree on the order and on who is base, flyer, and spotter in each (5 minutes).
- Practice building symmetrically: what one trio does with the right arm, the other does with the left. Build each stunt on the count "1-2-3 up, hold 3 seconds, 1-2-3 down" (8 minutes).
- Add mirrored transitions between stunts (walking, turning, rolling), each lasting 8 counts of music. Rehearse the full sequence for 6 minutes.
- Each pair of trios shows its 60-second routine to the class, who watch whether the symmetry and timing match (5 minutes).
- Discuss for 2 minutes which stunt was most in sync and what cue helped coordinate the two groups.
Rules
- Every stunt has an alert spotter who isn't part of the build.
- Always mount and dismount on the count, never by surprise.
- Don't try a new stunt during the performance: only practiced ones.
- Put weight only on hips, shoulders, and thighs, never on the spine.
Variations
Easier
Use only low pair stunts and coordinate them with the teacher's count.
Standard
Build 4 mirrored stunts with 8-count transitions.
Harder
The two trios join at the end in a combined six-person stunt.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student acts as a seated base or joins the stunt with arms and torso from the wheelchair.
- Visual impairment: place the student as a base in low stunts, with the spotter quietly giving the counts.
- Lower strength or fitness: the student acts as a spotter or flyer in low stunts, without bearing weight.
Learning goals
- Perform acrosport stunts symmetrically and in sync with another group.
- Apply safety rules strictly when mounting and dismounting.
- Coordinate between two groups using verbal and visual cues.
Equipment for a class of 25
- mats: 8
- music
- speakers: 1
Teacher tip
Reversed sides cause lots of confusion: have each trio tie a ribbon on their "mirror arm." Space the pairs of trios so there's room to walk between mats.
