Lane Duel: 1v1 to Two Mini Gates
1v1 duels in narrow lanes where the attacker scores by dribbling through either of two gates at the far end. The defender learns to steer, and the attacker learns to pick the open side.
How to play
- Set up lanes about fifteen by six meters with two cone gates at each end. One pair per lane; explain the game (3 min).
- Cooperative duel: the defender only shadows while the attacker tries fakes toward one gate or the other (4 min).
- Live duel for thirty seconds: the attacker scores a point for each gate crossed with the ball under control; then switch roles (7 min).
- Lane rotation: the round winner moves up a lane and the loser moves down, so opponents keep changing (4 min).
- Debrief: each student shares a fake that worked and how they defended without touching the stick (2 min).
Rules
- The defender may only play the ball: no touching the attacker's stick or body.
- Sticks stay below the waist at all times.
- If the ball leaves the lane, restart from the end; nobody chases it into the next lane.
Variations
Easier
Wider lane and the defender may only walk.
Standard
Live duel in a six-meter lane.
Harder
Narrower lane, and the attacker must go through the gate dribbling on the backhand.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair users: a wider lane, and the opponent plays with a short stick in a matching position (on a scooter board or kneeling on a mat).
- Blind or low-vision students: duel with a ball that makes sound in a shorter lane, with cues from a partner.
- Students lacking confidence: start in the passive-defender lane until they choose to move up.
Learning goals
- Beat a defender with fakes and changes of direction.
- Defend by steering the attacker without fouling.
- Win and lose with good sportsmanship.
Equipment for a class of 25
- floorball sticks: 30
- floorball balls: 15
- cones: 60
Teacher tip
Moving lanes up and down stops the strongest player from always beating the same opponent. Thirty seconds is a lot: keep the rounds short or the quality will drop.
