Knock-Knock Body Sounds
Kids discover how each body part sounds when they pat it: tummy, thighs, chest, shoulders, feet stomping. Then they walk to the tambourine beat and, when it stops, make the part the teacher calls sound. Kids build body awareness, rhythm and listening.
How to play
- Sitting in a circle, the teacher gently pats her tummy: "Knock, knock, who's there?" Everyone copies. Then thighs, chest, shoulders, puffed cheeks (3 min).
- Compare: "Does your tummy sound like your thighs?" Pick one part and pat the tambourine beat on it (2 min).
- Standing and spread out: the tambourine plays and everyone walks to the beat. When it stops, the teacher says "Knock, knock, knees!" and everyone pats them four times (4 min).
- Echoes: the teacher does a short pattern (thighs, thighs, clap) and everyone repeats it. Then a child invents a pattern (2 min).
- Finish: very soft pats all over, head to toe, like falling rain (1 min).
Rules
- Pats are gentle: no hurting ourselves.
- Only pat your own body, never a classmate's.
- When the tambourine stops, listen for the cue.
- Walk without bumping.
Variations
Easier
Only tummy, thighs and claps, sitting in place.
Standard
Walk to the beat and pat one part at each stop.
Harder
Three-part patterns and changing speed with the tambourine.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: do it all seated, swapping foot stomps for pats on the wheelchair.
- Hearing loss: the child rests a hand on the tambourine to feel the vibration and follows the teacher's gestures.
- Different skill levels: one-part patterns for some, three or four parts for kids who have the rhythm.
Learning goals
- Identify body parts through touch and sound.
- Follow a simple beat with the body.
- Repeat short movement patterns.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tambourine: 1
Teacher tip
Start very quietly and build the volume slowly so the group doesn't get overexcited. If noise grows, always close with the "gentle rain."
