Hopping Train

In groups of three, students form a train: each one bends a leg back, the student behind holds that ankle with one hand and rests the other hand on their shoulder, and the train hops forward together on a shared count. The activity builds dynamic balance, leg strength and group coordination.

How to play

  1. Partner practice: one student bends a leg back and the partner behind holds the ankle with one hand and rests the other on their shoulder; hold for 10 seconds, then switch spots (3 min).
  2. First hops in pairs: hop forward 5 m (15 ft) on one foot, counting "one, two" out loud to hop at the same time (3 min).
  3. Train of three: the last student bends a leg and holds their own ankle; trains travel 8 m (25 ft) between two cones at the pace set by the engineer at the front (3 min).
  4. Switch spots: every student takes a turn as engineer, middle car and caboose, and the hopping leg changes too (3 min).
  5. Final challenge: each train weaves through a short 4-cone slalom; if it breaks apart, stop, reconnect and continue (2 min).
