Hidden Sculpture Copy Relay
Each team recreates with their bodies a group sculpture drawn on a faraway card: one at a time, each student goes to look at it for ten seconds, comes back, and positions teammates without talking. Students build perception, visual memory, and cooperative body expression.
How to play
- Prepare 8 cards with simple drawings of 4 people forming a shape (a bridge, a boat, a flower). Make 5 teams of 5 by their cones, each with a chair 6 m (20 ft) away and a card face down on it (3 min).
- On the whistle, the first student power-walks over, looks for 10 seconds, and returns. Without talking, they position teammates with gestures and gentle touches on arms and shoulders.
- Then the second student goes, looks, and fixes or adds to the sculpture, and so on until everyone has gone; whoever leaves gives up their spot and takes it back on return.
- The team raises a hand when done and holds still for 5 seconds; the teacher awards 1 to 3 points for accuracy. Play 4 rounds of about 3 minutes, rotating chairs (13 min).
- Final round: each team invents a sculpture and another team copies it after looking for only 10 seconds (4 min).
Rules
- No talking while building.
- Touch only arms, shoulders, and back, gently.
- Shapes never involve carrying weight or climbing on anyone.
Variations
Easier
Two- or three-person sculptures and 20 seconds to look.
Standard
Four-person sculptures, 10 seconds, no talking.
Harder
Five seconds to look, and the sculpture includes a repeating movement, like a machine.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student is part of the sculpture in a chair or acts as lead sculptor.
- Hearing impairment: the game is visual; make sure the student can see start and stop signals.
- Autism or shyness: agree on comfortable touch beforehand; the student may use gestures only.
Learning goals
- Observe carefully and remember body positions.
- Communicate through gestures and respectful touch.
- Accept teammates' corrections.
Equipment for a class of 25
- Picture cards: 8
- Cones: 5
Teacher tip
Draw stick figures with very clear arms and legs. If a team gets stuck, allow one word per person in round two, then take it away.
