Group Long Rope: Everyone In Without a Miss
Two groups of 12 to 14 try to get every member jumping inside a long rope at the same time and then exit without the rope stopping. The challenge requires planning the entry order, adjusting the turners' rhythm and encouraging whoever finds it hardest.
How to play
- Teach how to turn a long rope with a wide arc and steady rhythm, and how to enter right as the rope hits the ground in front of you (4 min).
- Practice entering and exiting one by one: enter, jump three times and leave on the opposite side; turners switch every two minutes (5 min).
- Each group plans its entry order and positions inside the rope and writes down its goal for how many people will jump at once (3 min).
- Attempts to get the whole group in: each time the rope stops, record how many were inside and adjust the plan (8 min).
- Final challenge: everyone enters, jumps five times together and exits one by one without a miss; compare results with the original goal (5 min).
Rules
- Jump in tied sneakers on level ground.
- The rope always turns below jumpers' heads and is never yanked if someone gets tangled.
- Turners rotate every few attempts so everyone gets to jump.
- No one criticizes a teammate who misses; the group suggests an adjustment.
Variations
Easier
The goal is to get half the group jumping inside at once.
Standard
Get the whole group in, jump together five times and exit without stopping the rope.
Harder
Turn the rope the other way, so jumpers enter into the rising rope.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility or ankle injury: the student turns the rope and calls the rhythm out loud for the group.
- Visual impairment: the student enters holding a partner's hand, gets a tap for timing and listens for the rope hitting the ground.
- Overweight or low fitness level: the student enters last to cut down on consecutive jumps.
Learning goals
- Coordinate jumping rhythm with the whole group in a movement challenge.
- Plan and adjust a group strategy based on attempts.
- Encourage and support classmates who struggle more.

Teacher tip
A slightly heavy rope 25 to 30 feet long makes turning much easier. If a group gets stuck, suggest putting the most confident jumpers in the middle first.
