Group Keepy-Uppy Circle Record
Groups of five in a circle keep the ball in the air with the feet, thighs, or head, never letting the same player touch it twice in a row, and try to beat their group record. Students practice ball control in the air and cooperation across skill levels.
How to play
- Form coed groups of 5 in circles about 4 yards across, each with a foam ball.
- Round 1 (3 min): one bounce is allowed between touches. Groups count consecutive touches out loud and note their best score.
- Round 2 (3 min): no bounces, and nobody may touch the ball twice in a row. The group tries to beat its previous score.
- Round 3 (4 min): full-circle rule: all five must touch the ball before anyone repeats. Groups that master it switch to a soccer ball.
- Wrap-up (3 min): each group shares its record and what helped them improve it.
Rules
- Any body part counts except arms and hands.
- Headers are allowed only with the foam ball and only as soft touches.
- Groups stay at least 5 yards apart so balls do not mix.
- No blaming whoever misses: the group keeps going and starts counting again.
Variations
Easier
Allow one bounce between touches and one catch with the hands per round.
Standard
No bounces, no back-to-back touches by the same player, and the full-circle rule.
Harder
Only weaker-foot and thigh touches count, using a soccer ball.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student may touch with a hand or catch and toss, and it counts the same.
- Visual impairment: use a ball with a bell, and whoever plays it next calls out their name.
- Lower skill level: the student always gets one bounce before their touch.
Learning goals
- Control the ball in the air with different body parts.
- Adjust each touch so a teammate can keep it going.
- Work with the group to improve a shared record.
Equipment for a class of 25
- foam balls: 5
- soccer balls: 5
Teacher tip
Touches that are too hard break the chain, so ask for soft touches at about waist height. If a group gets frustrated, send it back to the bounce round so it can succeed again.
