Glued to the Floor
The teacher has an imaginary "magic glue" bottle and glues one body part of each child to the floor. With that part stuck, kids move everything else and turn around it. Kids build awareness of each body segment, mobility and imagination.
How to play
- Kids spread out. The teacher shows the pretend bottle: "It's magic glue! Wherever I squirt it, it sticks."
- First round: "I'm gluing one foot!" Kids move their arms, head and other leg, and turn around the stuck foot (2 min).
- The teacher "unsticks" everyone with a big blow and they walk freely. New part: a hand, bottom, a knee, tummy (5 min, 5–6 parts).
- Double parts: "I'm gluing both hands and one foot!" Kids find ways to move and notice what they can still move (3 min).
- In pairs: one plays teacher and squirts glue on a partner's part; then switch (2 min).
- To finish, the teacher glues the whole body lying down, then unsticks one part at a time until everyone is standing (1 min).
Rules
- The glued part stays put until the blow.
- Leave space around you so you don't hit anyone while turning.
- Glue is pretend: gestures only, no hard touching.
- When the teacher says "Freeze!", everyone stops.
Variations
Easier
Only feet, hands and bottom, with the teacher showing what to move.
Standard
One or two glued parts, and each child invents how to move.
Harder
Glue parts between partners, one child's hand to another's shoulder, and move together.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: glue upper-body parts or the back to the wheelchair and move the rest.
- Shy kids or autism: the child may copy the teacher's movements instead of inventing.
- Different skill levels: kids who get confused get one part at a time; skilled kids try to travel without unsticking.
Learning goals
- Keep one part still while moving the others.
- Discover how each body part can move.
- Express their own movement ideas with imagination.
Teacher tip
Ham up the glue with sound effects: it keeps attention. Keep rounds very short so nobody gets bored holding a position.
