Four-Goal Colpbol
A Colpbol game in which each team defends two small goals in the corners of its end line and attacks the opponent's two. Students must look up, switch the ball from side to side, and share defensive duties, with no fixed goalies.
How to play
- Set up two 80 × 50 ft fields with two small goals in the corners of each end line and a 6-foot half circle of cones in front of each (3 min).
- On each field, two teams of 6 in pinnies; the extra student referees and subs in after 5 minutes. Review: strike with the hand or arm, no catching, no kicking, and no one touches it twice in a row.
- Start from the center. A goal in either opposing goal = 1 point; a goal right after a pass that switches the ball to the other side of the field = 2 points.
- Play three 6-minute periods with a 1-minute break to decide who covers each goal (20 min).
- During the last break, discuss which team made the best use of the open goal and why.
Rules
- Nobody enters the half circles; if a defender steps in, the goal counts.
- No grabbing or pushing; give 3 feet of space on restarts.
- After a goal, the team that was scored on restarts from its end line.
- Safety: shots are struck below the waist to avoid balls to the face.
Variations
Easier
Add a neutral player who always attacks and allow two bounces in a row.
Standard
Six-on-six, two goals per team, and a bonus for switching sides.
Harder
A goal counts only if four different attackers touched the ball.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: plays in a protected lane along the sideline where nobody can take the ball for 3 seconds.
- Autism or shy students: always assigned to cover the same goal.
- Lower fitness: free subs with the referee every 2 minutes.
Learning goals
- Choose the least defended goal before attacking.
- Switch the ball across the field with long struck passes.
- Follow Colpbol rules without needing a goalie.
Equipment for a class of 25
- Colpbol balls: 2
- small goals: 8
- pinnies in two colors: 12
- cones: 24
Teacher tip
At first everyone bunches around the ball: freeze play and have students count teammates on each half. Weigh the goals down or set them against a wall so they don't tip.
