Floorball Triangle Passing and Receiving
A floorball drill in groups of three: the ball moves around a triangle of cones with flat passes and first touches that set it up for the next teammate. Students practice the push pass, stick control, and moving after the pass.
How to play
- Form 8 groups of three (one group of four if needed); each sets a 15-foot cone triangle, one player per cone, with one ball (2 min).
- Demo (2 min): push the ball with it against the blade and no backswing; to receive, angle the blade over the ball and steer it toward the next pass.
- Round 1 (3 min): the ball goes one way and switches on the whistle, to receive on forehand and backhand. Round 2 (4 min): pass and follow to the cone you passed to.
- Challenge (4 min): count passes in a row in 1 minute without the ball leaving the triangle; three tries, record the best.
- Wrap-up (3 min): try it with two balls at once and talk about what was hardest.
Rules
- Safety: the stick never goes above the waist.
- The ball is played only with the blade, never the foot or hand.
- If the ball gets away, the intended receiver gets it and restarts from their cone.
- Never step into another group's triangle without asking.
Variations
Easier
A 10-foot triangle and two control touches before passing.
Standard
A 15-foot triangle, directional first touch, and a two-touch pass.
Harder
One-touch passing, or a fourth player in the middle intercepting without a stick.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: plays seated or from a wheelchair with a short stick and a triangle within reach.
- Visual impairment: a larger ball with a bell or bright color, plus a voice cue before each pass.
- Lower skill level: may stop the ball completely before steering it.
Learning goals
- Pass the ball flat with the stick over 15 feet.
- Receive so the ball is set up for the next pass.
- Move into a new space after passing.
Equipment for a class of 25
- floorball sticks: 25
- floorball balls: 16
- cones: 24
Teacher tip
Keep triangles at least 12 feet apart so balls don't mix. The common error is slapping with a backswing: keep reminding students to push the ball, not hit it.
